Each skein is 40 metres and will be enough to complete one of the Sashiko - Kiwi style panels.
If using the navy or the red thread then it is advisable to use a double thread to cover the printing. This is quite common and makes a thicker, punchier stitch. You would need of course two skeins for one panel.
If you ever wanted to try sashiko stitching, then this is an easy way to start. The panel comes preprinted with the images and all you need to do is to stitch over the printed dashed lines using a normal running stitch and a sashiko thread and needle.
The panel is then cut into blocks and these blocks can be made into wallhangings, cushions or a quilt.
Here's some examples of the panel blocks stitched.
The sashiko - kiwi style panels are available in five colours and all match the New Zealand kiwiana birds and ferns/flora fabric beautifully.
The matching
sashiko needles are a great buy as the needle is strong, with a large eye and the small width along the length of the needle. There are two sizes in the pack. You are then able to choose which length you prefer. The longer the length means the more stitches you can load onto the needle at one time.
